Brand specific treatments

Guselkumab can be used as an option for treating moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults when:

a conventional treatment, biological treatment or Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor:

• has not worked (that is, the condition has not responded well enough or lost response to treatment), or
• cannot be tolerated, and

a tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha inhibitor has not worked, cannot be tolerated or is not suitable as per NICE TA1094.

Guselkumab can be used as an option for previously treated moderately to severely active Crohn's disease in adults, when:

conventional or biological treatment:

• has not worked (that is, the condition has not responded well enough or lost response to treatment), or
• cannot be tolerated, and

Use of tablets is restricted to those with a short bowel

For patients with swallowing difficulties: if needed capsules can be opened and the contents mixed with a small amount of water, jam or yoghurt, or the plain tablets can be crushed and mixed with water or soft food (off label)

Mixed formulary colour coding:

All mesalazine products listed (with the exception of Salofalk 2g/59mL enema) have a formulary position of PURPLE in all areas of Sussex, apart from Coastal West Sussex where they are coded as GREEN.

Salofalk 2g/59mL enema is only listed for use in Brighton and Hove and carries a PURPLE coding.

Pentasa 1g suppositories soon to be known as "Mesalazine Ferring 1g suppositories".

For treating moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis in adults when conventional or biological treatment cannot be tolerated, or the condition has not responded well enough or lost response to treatment, only if:

A tumour necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha inhibitor has not worked (that is the condition has not responded well enough or has lost response to treatment) or                    

A TNF-alpha inhibitor cannot be tolerated or is not suitable

AMBER (shared care) - in Brighton and Hove, East Sussex and Crawley, Horsham & Mid-Sussex. AMBER in Coastal West Sussex for active rheumatoid arthritis.

GREEN - in Coastal West Sussex for gastrointestinal conditions only (AMBER for active rheumatoid arthritis as above).
